Personally, I went with Java. It's a good language to learn that isn't too difficult and also allows for a good understanding of programming concepts like object oriented programming.

HTML is anyways a good language for beginners who'd want to learn web developing.
Anyways I think it is just a myth that HTML is not a programming language, because an experienced programmer told it is and because I can't prove that HTML is not a programming language.
Basically BASIC is the best basis, to build the logic of programming. Then you'll be forced to move to more effective languages depending on what you need to be doing. Good luck with your endeavor en welcome to the programming family 😆
