I believe that tags are the starting and ending parts of elements.

<BODY>This is tag <BODY background="black"> background is element of BODY tag in other example <BODY> <H1>My First Heading</H1> <P>My first paragraph.</P> </BODY> H1 and P are the elements of BODY tag "My first paragraph" is element of P tag. "My First Heading" is element of H1 tag. I know this is a little bit confusing but this is the main idea of OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING. Wanna go deeper ? You have one container and it contains its elements. Think about a glass of water. There is a glass , lets name it YOUR GLASS so we TAGed it. It contains a fluid lets call it water which means practically H20. But that water is specific water not any water in the world any more . It is THE WATER INSIDE YOUR GLASS which makes it element of YOUR GLASS. I hope that helps.
