Python vs java in automation framework

Does anyone know, between python and java, which is being used more in automation these days? In which scenario python is chosen over java for writing automation and vice versa?

Python is relatively new, so Java still has a very, very strong portion of the market and is seeked out frequently. Python is gaining popularity. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.
