There are also many proprietary COBOL-like languages out there, especially on mainframes (which can handle and integrate C++ and Java with the COBOL). These proprietary ones are typically known as 4GLs, aka 4th Generation Languages, which combine proprietary database, interface, and logic akin to the COBOL+SQL/DB2+CICS trifecta, but in an all-in-one easy-to-use packaged IDE. Its used for customer service interface and also rules-based transaction processing (can be for legal reasons like special conditions of an old health insurance claims process with specific rules)

Latest update: i actually saw some job posts for sytem updates from cobol to java. So it seems cobol is still aroynd until all that work is done!
