Trending means that it's something taking place -right now-. As such, if your code is getting a lot of attention in a small duration, it's trending. Get what I mean? Actually, while typing this I see Haris' post; he is spot on with what he said. If that 9 votes was spread out, then it wouldn't have went into 'trending', but since they happened in close succession as one another, it ended up trending.

It's both a factor of how many upvotes your code has AND how quickly your code gets upvotes. E.g. A code that gets 30 upvotes in 2 days has less chance to be on trending when compared to a code that gets 30 upvotes the same hour it's published.

I want add that muuch depends on your "status" on SL also ... If X has more follower and Y has few, on same code X will get much more upvotes than Y... Strange but work in this way

There are criteria but I haven't been able to figure them all out yet. E.g. we recently got cotds from nonweb codes, so I imagine they received a directory to emphasize codes other than web. Other times we get very simple cotds like the current one so there must be directories to encourage newbies at coding. Also your code must obviously be very good.

most of the time a boring code that does nothing but output a name or something in a fancy way seems to be trending. to find interesting codes i prefer to go to users profiles that i see a lot posting interesting stuff in the q&a

I suspect cotd is selected from the trending codes by a sololearn employee or a team of their employees. Basically, your code has to catch their eye.

KrOW Being nice to anyone has nothing to do with how cotd is selected. We dont know who or which persons select the codes.
