it depends on the problems faced.
R is highly dedicated thus narrow, but lots of stuff is readily available what saves time and reduces probability of errors.
Python is a general purpose language with quantitative libraries - but may require much more coding.
is somebody is a true FA and programs by necessity I'd recommend R.
ultimately there's no one answer, it all depends on issues to solve
