Why did Google switch to Kotlin

Java was Google's default language, what made them crown Kotlin as the new android programming language and is it worth it to learn Kotlin

They didn't switch to kotlin, they just added it to the pool to select from. You can develop android apps using both java and kotlin.


They haven't switched, Kotlin generates Java byte code and is interoperable with it. See https://developer.android.com/kotlin/faq.html for more information.
