the brand doesn't matter, anything above I5 with 8gb ram is more than enough for programming if you want to play some games a normal graphic card is needed and if you get yourself an ssd is a plus

to expand on this as a gamer in the market for a new laptop as well, I would look at lenovo's offerings as they have some reasonably priced i5 machines with 960m chips. or if you feel like you need an i7, MSI has a GL62 with a 6700hq with the same graphics chip for 749.99 at microcenter

linux for gaming ? seriously ? 😂 look for a msi or a razorblade. for normal gaming Win 10 with gtx 1060 or 960m would suffice.

any i5 processor 8gb ram 128gb SSD + 500gb HDD add Linux to it , and it will be best for work and still good enough for mid gaming.

MacBook is good for programmers, and an Asus ROG is well known for being a good gaming laptop

Linux is an good os for gaming but each installation requires a lot of work. That's the reason why I stay at windows 7. An ssd makes an huge difference and ik recommend it especially if you go to school with an laptop. Make sure you also have a hdd.
