The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) was established on July 15, 1987 through executive Order No. 220 issued by President Corazon Aquino. It is the only land-locked region of the Philippines.The region consists of the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Apayao. The regional center is the Chartered City of Baguio, officially known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines.

KALINGA

Kalinga is a province in the Philippines situated in the Cordillera Administrative Region occupying the northern-central section of Luzon. Its capital is the City of Tabuk.

The province has a land area of 3,282.04 square kilometers or 1,267.20 square miles. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 229,570. This represented 12.77% of the total population of the Cordillera Administrative Region, 0.37% of the overall population of the Luzon island group, or 0.21% of the entire population of the Philippines.

The Kalingas are a proud people and well known for their intricate hand-woven textiles and beautiful and colorful beaded jewelry. In every celebration, they incorporate dance and traditional music as a form of thanksgiving and cultural preservation. The Butbut Kalinga reside in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

BUSCALAN VILLAGE

Buscalan is a small village located in a some kind of a laid back town of Tinglayan, Kalinga. Tourists would often visit this village just to see and have their bodies tattoed by the legendary Apo Whang-Od who is considered as the last Mambabatok (traditional hand-tapped tattoo artist). Whang-Od and the rest of the villagers are members of the Butbut tribe and tattooing by hand-tapped is part of their unique and well preserved culture.

CHICO RIVER

The Chico River, is a river system in the Philippines in the island of Luzon, encompassing the regions of Cordillera and Cagayan Valley. It is the longest tributary of the Cagayan River with a total length of 233 km.
