FORTRAN " In 1954, Language FORTRAN was invented at IBM by a team led by John Backus; it was the first widely used high level general purpose programing language to have a functional implementation, as opposed to just a design on paper.

During a nine-month period in 1842ā€“1843, Ada Lovelace translated the memoir of Italian mathematician, Luigi Menabrea about Charles Babbage's newest proposed machine, the Analytical Engine.the first programming language was called ā€˜BINARYā€™ it was a just a mixture of two numbers (0 and 1)so,aquick answer will be that coding was made by ada lovelace and luigi menabrea for charles babbageā€™s computer invention. - Saksham Gupta (Quora) The first high-level programming language was PlankalkĆ¼l, created by Konrad Zuse between 1942 and 1945[1]. The first high-level language to have an associated compiler, was created by Corrado Bƶhm in 1951, for his PhD thesis. The first commercially available language was FORTRAN (FORmula TRANslation); developed in 1956 (first manual appeared in 1956, but first developed in 1954) by John Backus, a worker at IBM. - Wikipedia I Personally think "Binary" should be considered first but officialy (according to Wikipedia) it is PlankalkĆ¼l and Commecrially would be FORTRAN.

C is the first language. All modern day languages are based on C,little bit of modifications are done on them.
