Hi! The Python programming language was created by Guido van Rossum in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Guido started developing Python in December 1989, when he worked at the Center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI) in the Netherlands. The first version of Python was released in 1991.
The name Python is not related to a snake, as many might think.
Guido van Rossum was a big fan of the British comedy show Monty Python's Flying Circus, which aired on the BBC in the 1970s. He wanted to come up with a name for his language that would be short, catchy, and a little funny. That's why he chose "Python", paying homage to this show.
