Can I become a Software Engineer learning from this app?

I have this cool app idea that I'm eager to develop by myself. I believe that mastering the basics here on Sololearn will give me the foundation I need to make it happen.

Once I've absorbed everything I can from Sololearn, do you think I should pursue additional courses to enhance my skills, or is it possible to achieve my dream of becoming a software engineer solely through Sololearn?

Everyone starts from the basics. Here you can acquire solid basic knowledge in almost all programming languages. After that, all doors are open and you are able to teach yourself special skills independently.

I don’t really know. You should research any questions you have while developing, and I recommend listening to feedback from other developers reviewing your code. Start a project, and if you get stuck on something, try to look it up. If you’re not sure what to look up, it might be time to find more learning materials, but someone might be able to help you find them for free online.

While this app can give you a strong understanding of the basics and a good foundation, it can’t go into depth as well as say a college course could where you can ask proffessors questions. You could look into digital courses but if you want this to be your main source of income, you have to go to a proper course. Although you could use chatgpt for debugging, I wouldn’t recomend it for long term projects.

Emmanuel Owa There is no Sololearn desktop application. There’s only the webpage. We’re telling you, you need to use an IDE to do real-world coding. Sololearn’s sandboxed IDE and run environment is desperately handicapped for such uses. To use a metaphor, you’re asking for an adult sized tricycle to commute to work.

🎶Lilith🎶 I agree with most of that, however I strongly disagree with the idea that college is the way to go to become a bona fide programmer. An old guy down the street with a CRT might easily teach more useful stuff about programming than college ever taught anyone nowadays. Sololearn ain’t enough, that’s certain, but college ain’t the only other half and it’s a bad one at that. There are thousands of other, better ways to learn the more advanced material.

YES NO ... NO YES. it depends on where you are hired, how scalable is your project and also sololearn gives us mostly basics or introductions on most of the things and there are some lessons that needs by a software engineer which are not available on Sololearn.

Like, planning, protyping, user flow, flowchars, site maps, pseudocode... more

So from myself, it is good for picking up and also familiarising yourself with reading than watching a videos and copy how an instructor solves a problem.

But all in all, you can work on small scalable projects but also you need to keep on learning more deep
