Does gained badges affect the gained / lost XP points after a challenge?

Question

Recently I (Level 9) challenged someone named Finn Hartwell (Level 10) in HTML. I lost 2 : 4 to him as I'm not so good at challenges...
Usually when I lost a challenge against someone with higher level than me, I will gain 1 - 4 xp... However, when I lost the challenge mentioned above, I lost 20+ XP!
After "stalking" at his activity, I found out that it was his 100th HTML challenge and that he gained the "The Player" badge. Does the badge caused me to lose XP?
(P.S.: I actually don't care about losing XP)

EDIT: I (still Level 9) had just won a JavaScript challenge 3 : 0 against Dmitri (Level 8) and i got 20+ XP!
