@Levi Definitely bro. Even further, you may open up a whole new world to yourself that'll help aid getting you out of your depression. When I was 11-13, my father got really ill and ended up passing away. As you can imagine, that propelled me into a really dark place in my life that I'm still dealing with in my 30s. However, that's actually what got me into programming/computers and was an outlet for me to escape from the normal world for a moment. It gave me the creative power to create my own things/worlds for others to enjoy and for myself to disappear to when I needed it. Many of the things I love about my life now are the result of the shitty things of my past. I don't have a magic phrase to make depression go away, but I do know that you have the power (as well as I) to transform your world regardless of it. Best of luck to ya bro! Don't let ANYTHING in life stop you from obtaining what you want, not even yourself. PS - As far as making a living out of it... HELL YES! :) It's one of the higher paid jobs out there. In my area, a senior programmer makes around $140,000/year. Entry level is closer to $80,000/year. That's not even considering if you create your own company/software that you market out, rather than work for someone else. The potential for millions is there.

Well, programming can allow people to put their creative side to the test! Being able to create things in any way you want makes many people happy! Plus, programming is a MASSIVE industry.

@Jakob, that's a heartfelt story of your past man... but be careful with the language. 😂 SoloLearn doesn't really like colorful language.

@Jonathan lol Thanks for the concern. I'm a very colorful person when I speak. When I'm here, I try to refrain from directing it at anyone or using anything outside of neutral descriptive terms ("hell yes," "shitty," etc..). The kind of money that programmers currently make is worthy of a big hell yes. lol :D

I am searching for the same thing as you. I too suffer from depression and desperately need to change my life. I am 50 years old so maybe it's too late for me but I hope not. We'll never know unless we try.

@jakob Marley Thanks so much for your encouragement! I'm sorry to hear about your dad, but I'm glad to hear that programming helped you to cope and helped you to build a great life. I'm hoping that it will have a similar result with me, but right now I'm feeling that I'm not really learning because it's hard for me to remember things or figure out what does what, or even to "think outside the box". I'm not very creative but I just hope that maybe it will come with practice and time.

@Jonathon Thank you! That's one of the things that I like about coding is that there are so many things that you can do with it. I like that your options are endless in how to do something, but the thing is I'm not very creative, but I'm hoping that with time I'll get more confident and maybe the creativity will come. I know that I'm still really new to this, but sometimes I get impatient with myself because I feel that I should be better at it.

@Scott I don't think it's to late for you! I've heard of ones who are in their 70's who are learning to code as well. And it's nice to know that I'm not the only one whos fighting depression and is trying to learn to code. I've heard that learning something new can help fight depression too. As well as eating a healthy diet, which is something that I REALLY need to work on.
