it works on peer-to-peer connection. Unlike filesharing sites like mediafire which hosts the files on servers, torrents are hosted on computers. If you create a torrent. you will have to download it to your client, once the download reaches 100% you began to seed your files. another computer will then start downloading from you, that computer is called leecher and you are the seeder. Once he completes download he too becomes a seeder. so there will be two computers sharing the same file to other peers who will be connecting to the current torrent. In case, you stop seeding, another peer (seeder/leecher) will continue to seed(share parts of the files in the torrent). If no seeder is available, leechers may also be able to get complete files depending on the availability of the parts. If availability is 100%, it means the leechers who are downloading and uploading can get complete files. if availability if lower than 100% then they will need a seeder so that at least one of the leechers has the the remaining part to reach 100% then they can independently share without the seeder(a peer with complete file)
