I personally felt that I have a very good grasp on SQL coding after completing the challenges on www.hackerrank.com

Other than that, trying to comply with the needs of my customers also helped.

If you can not invent scenarios from your head to test your coding skills, challenge/competition sites like the one above helps a lot.
