[OFF-TOPIC] Guide to Tagging - Don't do this...

Why do people tag their questions incorrectly? How can a birthday notification or a medal win be related to c++, js, etc? How can a python vs java question be related to C++? I usually open the most recent tab to search for questions to answer and search for questions with the tags cpp,c++ etc... But such questions also have the c++ tags, and then they hide the questions that are meaningful... Thus, it is simply a request to stop tagging programming languages in questions like those. It is irrelevant...

If I remember correctly, I think one of the mods mentioned at one point that doing that is actually a form of spam and reportable.

I think the following tag system is best understood by all and should be under effect : //Please let me know If something is to be added or changed. Still in beta. General Questions - general , query Common Questions. - faq Polls - poll Related to general skills - programming Language Specific - $name_of_lang && $name_of_language with version. // Eg - c++, c++17 or python, python3 //Please don't use cpp for c++ or c or cs for c# //Those are extensions, not the names... Chat Threads - chat Topic Specific Queries - $name_of_topic Turbo C++ Questions. - TCC IDE Related Queries - ide && $name_of_ide Challenge Related. - challenges // Don't tag languages. Just don't. Course Related. - course *) Max No. of Tags preferred - 4 *) Tag Sololearn only if the question is related to updates or some related stuff...

When you come across questions like that you can report them by clicking the 3 dot menu in the top-right corner; use it moderators will do the rest.

content creation guidelines: https://www.sololearn.com/Content-Creation-Guidelines/ Update: @kinshuk vasisht even if you had reported it by mistake, no worries it wouldn't be deleted if the post is legit normally atleast.

@Lord Krishna: All due respect but this is incorrectly tagged. It has nothing to do with anything but Python. But you are correct in the regard to it being a valid question. But being valid does not apply to this conversation. On a side note: I personally find the name and shame method hit and miss when it comes to changing behaviour. In some it just further cements the behaviour you wish to alter. Some people will dig their heels in and behave like that because of spite. anyway. have a nice day!

@gordie You're right. Only a few visit this thread. Even fewer react and change their ways. But I still continue posting this thread on other incorrectly tagged threads, in the hope that they will change... But, as you said, I can't set some guidelines for people to use oas who am I anyway?) , and so, this thread is no more than a request...

@Lord Krishna, Guidelines are of no use if there is no will or there is lack of will to implement them strictly. The moderators themselves needs to get involved proactively to filter the noise (sic) instead of waiting for someone to report an issue. I don't know since when those guidelines are in place but it's clear they have been quite ineffective till date.

@NeutronStar Sololearn is a community driven platform, as it's duty is given to the top community members due to their limited number, the filtering of the stuff when they are active can take some time. About the guidelines well with an install base of a few millions without any guideline, rules or help in-app. this type of mistake is bound to happen by many users overtime. if you check the misleading posts it is mostly made by newbies without much knowledge or guidance.

This is inappropriate, people should stop doing this. And if they want to tag words, then they should tag them properly and not use words (tags)that are not relevant to the discussion. This is b/c that is what the tags are for, it is to make things easier, not harder. I agree with @Kinshuk Vasisht and others.
