i think its not that android apps are slower than one of ios, maybe what you have noticed was a slow app but in general it depends on how app is created and not due to android or ios.

android app don't run on java bytecodes they run on dalviks bytecodes which runs on dvm. compiled java code can be converted into dbytecodes so java is not a problem
