I can't find it now, but recently LinkedIn published a report showing that programming and software development based jobs are the most quickly growing and highly-paid.

maybe because of all the smart things that are becoming more and more popular... smart phones, smart watches, smart home, smart cars....
also there's hardly any job where there's no computer needed, so there's a need for special software. the market is huge and so is the demand for developers.
