The best way to understand it in totality is take sample codes or go to developer tools of simple sites and extract their codes and play around with it or redesign the html codes till you gain mastery of it.

To access the developer tools on chrome browser, click on the 3 dots at the top right part of the browser and click on options, click on developer tools and it will bring out a html-css- Java section of any page you are in. copy it and paste it on your html editor
