The certification might not be able to get you jobs but a portfolio most definitely might... Write programs, a lot using what you learn. And have them on GitHub. Not only will writing codes help you become a better coder, those codes will help you showcase what you know and can do, and most of the time it is your abilities that will actually land you a job... That is unless you live in a place where the only thing that matters is a degree
