Differences between hedgehogs and porcupines

The main difference is that they are of different Orders. The hedgehog is of Eulipotyphla, which also includes shrews and moles. Porcupines are in Rodentia, which includes rats, mice, beavers, etc.

Hedgehogs are omnivorous while porcupines are herbivorous.

Hedgehog spines are strongly attached to the animal’s hide; they do not detach easily, unlike the porcupine quills. A hedgehog rolls itself into a ball when threatened. The porcupine can’t do this; the most it can do is present the side with the most quills to an attacker.

These are just the basic differences, but the two don’t even resemble each other, even superficially.
