The demand and supply equation thus caused higher prices for the goods which was reducinh their profit. The only way left to ensure profit was to eliminate conpetition of buyers which led to rivalvries.

The company had recived a royal farman from the Mughal Emperor Farrukh-Siyar to trade without paying any duty or tax but the executive of the company misused this farman and indulged in private trade without paying any duty.

The Battel of Plassey led to the conquest of Benagl and paved way for british rule in India. It exposed the weakness of the army and the India nawabs.

7. How did the assumption of Diwani benifit the East India Company?

The Diwani solved a major problem which was being faced by the company. Though in the 18th century the company had expand its trade and was purchasing large number of goods,it did not have much to sell in India.

8. What is the concept of dual goverment?

The concept of dual goverment was introduced in Bengal by Lord Clive in 1765. This entailed a division of power of goverment between the nawab and the company.

9. Give reason for the conflict between the british and the rulers of Mysore

Tipu Sultan tried to restrict the spice trade of the British in Malabar Coast. All this led to the Anglo-Mysore wars which are were fought between 1767 and 1799.

10. Why did British want to annex sind?

Sind occupied a strategic position. It lay on the route from British India to Afganistan through the Bolan Pass. The East Indian Company was worried that Russia might invade from this side.

11. Why did British government pass the Regulating act of 1733?

To regulate the company activities, British government passed the Regulating Act of 1773.
