The above diagram shows the amount of gras (green), the amount of bunnies (broun) and the amount of foxes (orange).
The generated eco-system makes every animal eat to survive. If the animal can't eat it has a chance to die, meaning the graph falls. After having removed the animals that died, the remaining animals have a chance to get children and increase their numbers again.
The gras grows on it's own, whereas the bunnies need to eat gras and the foxes need to eat bunnies.
(-> in the code foxes have a chance to get hungry, mainly to make the graph look more realistic, but it also makes sense since a bunny for foxes is more than a little bite)

When foxes are hidden they don't interact with the bunnies in anyway. The interisting part is without foxes the gras in the eco-system gets overrun by bunnies, after that the huge amount of bunnies dies in nearly an instant, because they don't have any food left.
By adding foxes the bunnies are kept in check by them, resulting in an gras-ful eco-system (nearly, because it's alot of chances) all the time and no starving bunnies. By adding one animal we changed the entire eco-system.

You may need to wait a little for the foxes or reset with foxes activated to see the difference.
