YAGNI Concepts

"You arent aren't gonna need it (YAGNI) is a principle of extreme programming (XP) that states a programmer should not add functionality until deemed necessary. XP co-founder Ron Jeffries has writte: "Always implement things when you actually need them, never when you just forsee that you need them." Other forms of the phrase include "You aren't going to need it" and "You ain't gonna need it".

An example of YAGNI

YAGNI is similar to the KISS principle (which stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid! - We will cover that in another article). Both are needed for people to learn and explore the world of programming.

The DRY Principle is also similar to the YAGNI principle. DRY stands for "Don't Repeat Yourself".

Why is it good?

YAGNI is useful for progamming teams who do not need to go above and beyond with new features. It is needed to save time and to become more efficient with projects.

Any Disadvantages?

Some features you think you may not need may be needed as soon as the project is nearing completion, you and your team would the have to spend even more time implementing this new feature. XP also has its own flaws (which will be covered in a future concepts article).
