I think that Unity is best for begginers in game development. You have many courses and tutorials on their site...

one of my best resources is Udemy. The classes they have available are almost always on sale for around $15 US and cover blender, maya, unity and unreal, and more.

It depend on what type of the game do want you to create. If you want to create 2d, try cocos2d, godot or defold(all are free) . If you wanna make 3d game use unity or godot..

I would always suggest Unity, but this depends on the language you choose. There are always these 2 engines for free. Unity can go 2D to 3D It supports Unity language, JS, and C# which is what I suggest to choose if you do C#. There ie UE4 Which support blueprint "coding" and C++ Next There is GameMaker / 2 From what I know it supports only its own code, but its great for beginners for its interface and no need for scripting, it's for 2D. There are more engines, but always try to pro and con them, UE4 is more for teams sometimes, each depends on what you want to do. And all of us posting on what engine to use is purely just our opinion, so take mine with a grain of salt. 2D GameMaker 1 or 2 Unity 3D Unity UE4(Unreal Engine 4) Remember to practice! And here is some other tip lol, NEVER make a story first, this can create limitations for what you want in the game, first, make a demo of all the stuff you want to put in the game, then after its done, create a story for a new game! That's all I have for now, as I am busy, hope you do well!
