In my opinion, the best way to learn programming is to start doing the tutorials. These are the steps i suggest:
1. Complete the course;
2. Always practice by coding every new information;
3. Ask help from the community for everything unclear;
4. Check others' code and try to understand and interprete them;
5. Challenges aren't very useful to learn, they are just "challenging" and "competitive", so i think you get the point.

It's a nice way to start. Obviously the more you code the better it is. Just try to understand what's the best way to complete a task, not only how to complete it. Focus on data structures.

it is a nice app and good point to get started. nevertheless, you will need to practice on your own. playing around with the try it yourself section is also very recommendable.
