list-style-position specifies the position of the marker(inside or outside), what does the marker mean here? Is it a checkbox?

I don't understand what is it? what does it mean when they say that it specifies the position of the marker? Please somebody tell me I'm dying of not being able to understand it, I know its simple but I'm not getting it.

the marker is the dot/circle/square before the list items in an unordered list or the number in an ordered list. you can change its appearance with list-style-type. use code playground to create an example page and experiment with it. you'll see clearly what is meant ;)
