Why is it that we need to write so many big codes for a simple page? Why not simply type them as in MS Word?

I find coding as one of the most interesting things but I am ridiculed as to why it is required. Please help.

HTML is more structured and clearer than MS Word documents are. They are also smaller and that is great for all internet documents.

Another point is, that Word is a "What you see is what you get" programm, which makes it hard to use if you want a webpage look different on different devices.
