All the ones which are on here :> Seriously speaking though, before I came to SoloLearn, I got to know Java and Python (If you don't count HTML in) before the others.

COBOL is famous. The first collaboration between industry and government to define a common high-level programming language that worked on all hardware platforms of the time, and transformed the concept of programming. Before COBOL, everyone wrote in assembly, and every processor has its own assembly language. Forth is famous for being the most efficient embedded language ever designed, for being the most cryptic of any language I've tried to learn. Let's not forget Bill Gates (and company) BASIC. It started the PC revolution.

Python is a language that is both famous and can probably lead to a higher pay scale. Java and C# are the other popular ones. In case of Web development Javascript is not only popular but also inevitable to add functionalities to the Web front-end.
