> Visual Studio Code > NOTE++ > Atom > Sublime text > etc.. I prefer Visual Studio Code

It doesn't matter, but IDE is better than editor.

HTML Editors Write HTML Using Notepad or TextEdit Web pages can be created and modified by using professional HTML editors. However, for learning HTML we recommend a simple text editor like Notepad (PC) or TextEdit (Mac). We believe using a simple text editor is a good way to learn HTML.

you dont have to use editor you can just write codes in txt but if you want editor you can use notepad++ vi atom

Sublime text is great VScode also pretty good. Atom haven't tried yet but there are many critics saying it's slower than the other two.
