When faced with the term hacking i tend to wonder what does it entail does one use code he's learned in java or c++

do the so called hackers use command prompt as shown in movies , i am a novice and such things perplex me ....... help me understand

It's nothing like the movies. Ya you'll use command prompt, but usually you'll be using other forms of software most of the time. At most you'll be programming tools which will help your task, but hardly using code to do actual hack. Also it's really slow paced nothing like the movies, so go brew some coffee while at it.
