When I was first learning, it was back in the 90s and the internet wasn't awesome yet, not like it is now. I had to earn and save up money as a kid by doing yard work for neighbors so that I could buy a paperback book on C and C++; if I recall, it was Sam's Teach Yourself books. I didn't know programmers where I lived and I wasn't aware of communities online where I could really engage with others to ask questions or get help; on top of that I was really young and people treat kids like.... well, kids. I instantly fell in love with C++ and would grind at it day in and day out, I realized immediately that programming is the life that I wanted to live. I started to make online text-based games with those languages and that's when I also realized my passion for game development, which prior to that I looked at it as an impossible dream; like a kid wanting to work at a chocolate factory, it's just a dream and nothing more. From that moment it's been my focus and my goal in life, not just a dream. Nothing could stop me from accomplishing this. So what's my point? My point is that I realized what I wanted from life and I decided to pursue it despite my age, amount of money or available resources to me. When you want something bad enough, and you want it for the right reasons, you'll do everything possible to make it happen and if you can't find a way you'll create a way to it because it's your purpose in life. If this is what you want from your life, you live in an amazing time in history to easily obtain it and excel at an amazing pace. All the resources we have easily available from our computers or cell phones is crazy; most often it's also free resources. So the reality is that you've no excuse to learn everything that you want to learn if you have access to the internet. You have endless resources and MILLIONS of people all over the world that's willing to help you almost instantly. Don't take this for granted and become the amazing person you're meant to be. Stay focused and concentrate on what you want!

@HonFu Yup! :D I'm almost in my senior year of my bachelor's for it, majoring in game programming and minoring in 3D modeling / animation. Currently, my job is in business intelligence and automation, so I'm transitioning into it full-time as soon as possible; what I do now is boring at this point and I've gotten all I wanted to get out of it. I want to pursue my creative side instead but got this job while in school so I could pay my bills and just did my gaming stuff for fun outside of work. I have a project that's in the works now that'll serve as the means to get my indie company off the ground. Right now it's just me and another working on it, so we're far from AAA level by any means, but should be in a position to get something out by the end of the year to establish myself in the industry. From that point, if it's successful then I'll continue with my own company and if it's not, I'll use it as part of my portfolio to get hired on with a gaming company I love (Bethesda or Rockstar probably). Sorry about long delay btw. Web version of SoloLearn doesn't notify you of anything at all.

i just learned and practiced a lot..then searched for companies needing a web dev. look for smaller companies to start in...they are more open to hire you with no experience.
