mainly mysql improved version is known as msqli. which is consisted with object, prepared statements and many more..

don't use mysql_* its removed on php7 use PDO . (y) its better

MySQL is legacy now and it will be removed from PHP 7. MySQLi is the enhanced and modernized version of MYSQL, it has features that MySQL is lack of.
