It's preferable to not confuse your learning by concentrate on only one language seriously, before to learns others. Choice of this language to target must be done in regards of what you want to do as king of programming, obviously ( and it's never too late to decide to change )... However, an exception to that, is for web development purpose, you quickly need to mix learning different language @@ In this case, my advise is to start with concentration to Html ( which becomes soon with Css stuff, and both are less programming languages than descriptive ones, which could permit to acclimatize to coding, before jumping either on Php or JS, based on what side of web you prefer -- JS seems to me prioritary, more linked with Html enhancement on user side, so is good to a Php developer to have some skill, and in addition Php could be replaced as well by JS on server side )

it depends on your goals. for example c plus plus is a great language in parallel processing however it doesn't have good frameworks for web development. meanwhile if you learn language like cpp you will learn other languages so fast. i personally think cpp is a great language for a amateur developer.
