Website help

I'm having trouble to understand the difference between js, jQuery and php. Currently, I'm trying to create a website and so far I have several html files as well as css and js files. Should I use php/jQuery and if yes, why? Is it linked to certain kinds of websites? Can anyone help me out ?

Thank you! So for clarification: My website is a simple one, containing mostly just text and pictures. However, I have a contact form for emails. In that case I don't need jquery, but I need php (for the contact form), right?
