all languages work's with you're operating system (system programing implementation) and more exactly with input/ouput (usb, rs232, rs485, network, etc.... like your keyboard and mouse ;) )

in robotic you work with the material/output and the program/input

c,c++, python for start, it's a good way.
for material, arduino and raspberry.pi are the best mother board
finally : work/learn to use unix/linux operating system.
