It really depends on what you'd like to gain from programming. Do you want to make a game? A desktop application? A webpage?

I suggest C# if you're developing on windows, since it's a powerful language with easy to read code. The same could also be said for Java too, they are both very similar in syntax(the writing style). However Java can run on just about any system.
