I myself am working on learning Python, but I've got 44 years of experience and 67 languages I've programmed in. I finished Java 3 months ago and don't expect to master it anytime soon, if ever. Most might think I'm an expert, but it would only be because I know more than they do. I know what true mastery looks like and I've only had that in one language. I programmed C++ for 33 years and never had mastery of it.

Mastery to me and lots of others is knowing everything there is to know about a language, the cute tricks that save execution time, the libraries provided, the syntax that makes up the language, and the grey areas to avoid to make understandable code. I could produce any code now in Python, but haven't learned half of the language. I'd make due with the subset I do know.
