If you want a .com address, you'll have to buy one. GoDaddy.com has a deal so you can get it for a year for only $1, which is a good deal. I'd say a "normal standard rate" is around $10-14 for a year. Otherwise, you'll have to settle for the free ones which are usually sub domains or domains that most people don't use. It's not bad if your only goal is getting a domain, but most people trust the mainstream domains that they've always known and love. (.com, .org, .net, etc...)
