HTML is for essentially what amounts to telling your web browser where all the elements of a webpage go, such as an image, a hyperlink, or a heading. This is where to start if you want to do web development, or want your own website. After HTML, learn CSS and JavaScript, and if you want to be truly proficient, then do JQuery, PHP, Node.js, ECMAScript, AngularJS, SQL, etc.. Start with JQuery after though.
