Can anyone help?

Question

I edited a Java program on a normal notepad and converted it to .java file using last click and then properties. I didn't noticed that 'use this application for all files of this type' was selected. Next day when I tried opening my computer it didn't open. Could former incident be the cause for the latter one?

Well I thought that as I turned the file Java, other Java extension files to turned into SE binary so when windows tried to open those files they wouldn't open as they have been taken over by Java SE binary.

I don't think so, it shouldn't matter in this case.
