Https is a secure protocol that encrypts your traffic with an algorithm. Http is a protocol which is not secure. Your traffic doesn't encrypt. That means someone in your network could make a MIDM attack which lets your traffic to be seen by others.

https is a "secure" version of the http protocol. This protocol encrypts your communication with the website and it allows you to make sure that the website you are visiting is not a fake. This is due to an SSL certificate given to the server of the website you are visiting. But, some methods of hacking can fool you by making you believe that the https protocol is used. Furthermore, https offers a secure communication, but it does not ensure you that you are on a virusesless website.
