How is C++ used in bioinformatics?

If you have not taken any CS classes in undergrad then yes, if you have taken some CS classes, still yes. At least take Software Development and OOP. In my experience I've come across more Java than C++ in this field, but it is good to know either - or both. Data Structures and Programming will also be incredibly useful.
Of course, if it's not realistic you will probably see similar courses in a Master's program in Bioinformatics. Although I think Undergrad CS courses are bit more intensive than their Bioinformatics counterparts (even in grad school). But that was my experience x years ago, things may have changed and I was only exposed to one Master's program.
