As the others have stated, mastery in programming might be considered by some as an elusive thing that can probably never be obtained :) Proficiency on the other hand is another matter. It could take months or years depending on how much time and effort one puts into study and practice.

I've been using python a ton; I still wouldn't say I'm a master... I'm very comfy if I want to do something in Python, but I certainly don't know all the tricks nor understand that well how it may operate under the hood. I imagine I'd have to learn C to understand the hood of python
