Recently I observed that my phone's battery is draining faster than it used to though the phone is not too old. I was wondering at and till what percentage should I charge it to?

Short answer :
Always keep battery level between 50% to 85%
Long answer :
1> Phone batteries work on reversible chemical reactions converting chemical energy to electrical energy and vice versa.
2> But this reaction is not 100% reversible, hence battery loose its capacity after each charging cycle.( charging less than 20% to more than 90% can be considered as one charging cycle )
3> Hence capacity of battery is continuously decreasing with each charge/discharge cycle.

@infinity numbers in my answer are approximate

average life of battery is around 2-3 years (it also depends on user)
but we don't even use our smartphones that long (??)

From what I recall, the phone should not be charge fully up to 100%.
The charge level should always be maintained between 50% to 90%.
