What is the difference between .htm and .html file extensions?

The file extensions for saving HTML code are .htm and .html. I want to know the difference between the two and that which one is better to use.

There is no difference in function. The only difference is the letter l. (translated using google translate)

The difference between html and htm in the only redundant letter of the file name extension. More common is html, but nothing prevents to change at own discretion.

Once, on windows, file's extensions had only 3 letters, but it actually was named Hyper Text Mokup Language (H.T.M.L.), but they had to use htm.
