[Off Topic] Black Women in Code??
So Iām going to be starting University soon and Iām studying computer science. Iām 17 and I guess you can tell by the title that I am African American š Iām not going to lie... I do have concerns. I read online that out of all the programmers only 5.6 are female... and I could only imagine what a small number black women are. Ive been coding since I was 12 and Iāve loved it ever since, but I canāt lie itās really intimidating. Any advice? Any opinions? Thanks :) <3

Why would color or sex have anything to do with the code?

To be honest I see no connection between the two points. If you like programming simply program. :)

@pro100volk2016 just changed the title to āOff Topicā. Should be no confusion now š

I don'understand why race matters in this world....even in programming!!!

one thing I know that matters is coding skills and passion... Nothing with race over there

for all those who canāt understand what color has to do with code, instead of trying to downplay other peopleās experience, why not ask questions?

0120 thank you for understanding :) Itās okay, they just donāt understand.
Im 20 years old now, currently on the verge of graduating with a Computer Science degree and a 3.9 GPA, and i do live in a very racist area, so despite what everyone here said , I DID experience a lot of clear racism and sexism, but I didnāt let it define my walk. I scored my first internship this past week which I will be starting in June for a black owned company with a mission to further spread software engineering to minority and low income areas, and Im beyond grateful for this experience. I came back here to brush up on my Ruby š I hope youre doing well also. Good luck with your journey!
MecyDev and Celestinoš°šŖš«š· I hope you understand, you can love programming and be great at it but itās still a HUMAN deciding your fate in the workplace. And not all of them have the same mindset as you. My worries were 100% valid. And that goes for ALL fields.
