Is Ruby on Rails that promising?
Hi all. Iāve been wondering about the potential of Ruby. When checking job offers, Ruby seems to be definitely on trend. However, some other says that itās only because if pretty fresh in the market. What do you guys think? Thanks!!

I remember when I was reading all the hype about Ruby and I couldn't figure out the appeal. I converted one web project from Ruby to NodeJS and another to C# WebAPI and AngularJS a few years ago.
Funny thing is, I read more buzz about Python, but I've seen less commercial work done in Python than Ruby. I can't help but to think the hype with Python will eventually fade as well.

The demand for Rails has fallen a lot. Rails had a very fast adoption because of its development methodology and Ruby is quite fun to learn and write, but it has its problems.
One of the best known is that Ruby is slow and the performance in difference to other languages can be noticed (note: I am referring to Ruby's 1.x.x versions). Many also doubted how scalable it was since Twitter decided to switch from Ruby (Rails) to Scala.

@morpheus... Since Ruby is slooooow... it got a much needed performance boost in both conversion projects. Now that .Net Core is native on multiple OS platforms, I'm really enjoying WebAPI over NodeJS these days.

my opinion that in every language, if you have an expert, there are places. any new or old :)

Something that Python has in its favor is that it has not stagnated in a single library / framework, contrary to what happened with Ruby, which at this point is practically known only by Rails.
As long as it has that versatility, the language will maintain its reputation until something else has a boom or make a significant change that changes the vision of the developers.
Being honest Ruby is a very funny language and I enjoy using some structures that the language offers, but unfortunately at this point I feel stuck (or at least the ecosystem that is next to the language).
