What is JavaScript?

Hey guys, i want to know that Javascript is not a Java, but JavaScript is used for website developing when companies develop they website behavior using a Javascript, but i don't know is JavaScript are use for Website Developed or not for Application Developed

javascript runs on client side
for the server side you have to use for example php or python
It is also possible to use javascript on serverside using node.js
